I’ve heard that it’s easier to see a second run movie in Portland than a new release. I decided to test this theory out, and to spare you from reading further; it’s true.

Last night I checked out Wes Anderson’s “Moonrise Kingdom” at the Laurelhurst Theater. Originally opened in 1923 the main theater has since been expanded and cut up in to several smaller ones. The selection of films are all second run, with the occasional special showing- “Bad Santa” is playing in December.
Here you can enjoy a pint and a slice while watching a movie, some of the seats have tables in front of them. Best part is, films are only $4. It seems impossible to see a movie these days without going into debt, but I always get hungry waiting in line at the concession stand and get loads of popcorn. If you miss a movie on opening night you can always wait a few months to see it for half price and with a beer.
