So, here I am, back in California. There’s nothing like time away to make you realize just how much you miss home. What’s the best part of being back in CA?
I’m enjoying the sun and warmth, though it’s now warmer in Portland than it is in LA. It’s also great to see old friends and catch up. And while that’s all well and good, one thing that I desperately missed in the Pacific Northwest was Mexican food. Portland can’t do a proper burrito. There’s no need for asparagus in the tortilla. Not true in LA. The trouble here is deciding where to go. I particularly enjoy The Best Fish Taco in Ensenada, which is actually in Los Feliz. They keep it simple and the name gets me.
I know Portland likes to keep it weird but here I’ve gone to a cemetery to watch a movie. Cinespia holds a weekly movie showing at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. It’s a scene, the people watching is just as good at the film. I saw American Psycho, a personal favorite of mine -movie reference right there. Next time I go I’ll remember to get there earlier to claim a larger plot of land and bring more beer. That might just be solid life advice.
I also checked out the MOCA and saw an installation by Urs Fischer. It was totally strange and disorienting. I’m still trying to figure out what exactly I saw. But, I’m mentioning it so I can include some pictures and brighten things up. Yes, that dead guy above is meant to brighten things up.
It hasn’t been an entirely smooth transition back to CA – I have more flannel than anybody else here. But I’m enjoying it and hope to explore more of LA. Suggestions always welcome.
